Happy New Year!

Welcome back.  We have kicked off this week with looking at the letter ‘Cc’.  We are focusing on the hard ‘Cc’ sound /k/ but acknowledging the soft sound /s/.  We have discovered that this is a tricky letter because there are also words that sound like they work, but are actually written with the letter ‘Kk’.   My focus is the phonemic awareness (sounds), and if children discover a word like ‘kite,’ I will tell them it is written with a ‘K’ but accept it for the /k/ sound.  J

We are excited to welcome Mr. Schlamp into our classroom this month.  Here’s what he has to say:

“Hi, my name is Mr. Schlamp (Shhhhh-lamp) and I am a student teacher. I am studying to become a teacher at Ambrose University College. I have just started my first practicum in Mr. Trechka’s classroom and I am really excited about it!
I come from a small town in Saskatchewan but I have done all of my post-secondary schooling in Calgary, at Ambrose University College. My first degree is in biology and I really like science!

I hope to get to know everybody in the classroom really well before I finish my practicum at the end of January. “

The students have done an excellent job welcoming him, and Mrs. Christofferson in Mrs. Hassam’s class.  If you see them, please give them a warm Beddington welcome!
